The customary government in this village is very influential and the community adheres to customary rules. Customary government in the Kerinci region has long been established and changed after the Dutch occupied Jambi in 1906, which changed the sultanate system into a clan administrative area with Pesirah or Kemendapoan. After Indonesian independence, the system was centralized by Law No. 5 of 1979, which homogenized the form of village government and was implemented by Jambi Province Governor Regulation No. 181 of 1982. Despite these changes, Kerinci's customary government continues to exist and influence community life.  This study aims to explain the impact of the enactment of Jambi Provincial Governor Regulation No. 181 of 1982 concerning the Dismissal of the Head of Pesirah, Clan and Mendapo on the abolition of customary governments in the regions of Jambi Province. The discussion in this study is divided into three, namely, the condition of the Koto Tuo Pulau Tengah Village area, the Government System in Koto Tuo Pulau Tengah Village before 1982, and the existence and position of the customary government in Koto Tuo Pulau Tengah Village after the Decree of the Jambi Provincial Governor Regulation No. 181 of 1982. The theoretical foundation is needed to provide clarity about the object of research with a political sociology approach and existence theory. The method used in this research is the historical method which includes four stages, namely heuristics, verification, interpretation and historiography.  The results of this study indicate that the customary government in Koto Tuo Pulau Tengah Village, Central Island is still visible and functional despite the legality of the customary government in the Jambi Province area has been abolished. The position of the customary government in this village has an important role in the lives of its people in both religious and other fields.
