The selection of this research topic was motivated by the limited studies on Islamic literature publishing in Indonesia. Publishing by the Arab community in Surabaya has been present since 1908 when it was founded by Salim Nabhan. The success of Salim Nabhan in the publishing business motivated other Arabs such as Muhammad bin Ahmad Nabhan, Hasan Assegaf (publisher of Al-Haromain), and Ibrahim Muqaddam (publisher of Al-Hidayah) to establish publishing ventures. This research seeks to uncover the developments in Islamic literature publishing businesses and the factors contributing to these developments. To explore the development of Islamic literature publishing owned by the Arab community in Surabaya, the study utilizes the multilinear evolution theory proposed by Alex Inkeles. The research employs historical research methodology, encompassing stages including: 1) Heuristic or the search for historical sources, both primary and secondary. 2) Verification or critique of sources to ascertain their validity. 3) Interpretation of historical facts. 4) Historiography, the final stage involving systematic documentation of research findings. The results of this study indicate that the development of publishing by the Arab community in Surabaya encompasses several aspects: the evolution of publication types, the number of publishers, and advancements in product marketing. The publishing of Islamic literature by the Arab community in Surabaya has thrived due to economic factors such as affordable product pricing and extensive marketing networks. Intellectually, there has been an increasing demand for Islamic literature as a source of information, alongside technological advancements contributing to these developments} }
