abstract: This analysis evaluates the handling of the murder case of female student Naira
Ashraf by the Egyptian judicial system, as well as the responses arising from the
victim's family and the media, using Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse
Analysis (AWK) approach and the ideology of socialism in Al-Qahirāh 24 media.
The media portrayed the Egyptian judicial system as efficient and fast in handling
the case, which was considered satisfactory for the victim's family and the wider
community. The family, especially Naira's father, felt that the legal procedures were
convenient and did not overburden them. Naira's father, Ashraf, showed deep faith
in God's justice and the legal system, hoping that heavenly justice would descend
as he expected.
This research uses critical analysis methodology to explore how media discourse
shapes perceptions of justice and the effectiveness of the legal system, as well as
how the ideology of socialism in Al-Qahirāh 24 media influences the representation
of this case. This ideology of socialism in the media is reflected in the emphasis on
social justice and efficiency as part of the state's responsibility to protect citizens'
rights and ensure fair treatment.
In addition, this analysis also considers the social context related to women in
Egypt, where the case drew attention to issues related to violence against women
and the need for reforms in legal protection. The swift and fair handling of the legal
system not only contributes to the perception of justice but also reflects a social
response to concerns about women's safety and rights in the country. By applying
critical analysis and Fairclough's AWK, this study highlights how the language of
the media, the speed and effectiveness of the legal system, and the ideology of
socialism influence public trust and give voice to the challenges and changes
women face in the Egyptian social context.
