Marfuah Sri Sanityastuti, M.Si abstract: Family is the first educational environment for children, and parents are the ones responsible for it. Families play a major role in a child's growth and development, thus having a significant impact on each of their members. However, in reality, families cannot fulfill this function due to the loss of family members. Causes of someone becoming a single parent include death and divorce, which can affect a child's psychology. Currently, society is faced with the phenomenon of single parents due to the lack of an ideal family structure, either due to divorce or the death of a partner. This study aims to analyze the interpersonal communication of single parents in shaping children's self-confidence. In interpersonal communication, there are several communication styles, including assertive communication styles, passive communication styles, and aggressive communication styles. The research method used in this study is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The theories used are Heffner's communication style theory and Lauster's self-confidence theory. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that assertive communication is the communication style most frequently used by single parents when communicating with their children. Passive communication is the communication style least frequently used by single parents when communicating with their children. It can be concluded that assertive communication is the communication style that can help single parents build their children's self-confidence. date: 2025-08-27 date_type: published pages: 108 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Ahmad Ma’ruf Yahya, NIM.: 21107030035 (2025) KOMUNIKASI INTERPERSONAL ORANG TUA TUNGGAL DAN ANAK DALAM MEMBENTUK RASA PERCAYA DIRI (STUDI FENOMENOLOGI PADA KELUARGA DI KAMPUNG SURODADI, BOYOLALI).
