Agung Danarta, M.Ag. abstract: This research is motivated by a social reality in which the values of silaturahmi (Islamic kinship ties) are increasingly marginalized due to the busyness of modern life and the influence of globalization, while the Mappacci tradition is gradually losing its meaning in the eyes of the younger generation. Ideally, silaturahmi is an essential Islamic teaching that must be preserved, and Mappacci, as a Bugis pre-wedding tradition, functions to strengthen family bonds, social solidarity, and spiritual values. This study focuses on two main research questions: first, what are the values of silaturahmi contained in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him); and second, how are these hadith values reflected in the practice of the Mappacci tradition. The study employs a qualitative method with a field research approach, using the theory of living hadith and Alfred Schutz’s phenomenology. Primary data were obtained from the Kutub al-Tis’ah collections of hadiths related to silaturahmi, interviews with religious leaders, Bugis cultural figures, and community members who practice the Mappacci tradition, as well as field documentation. Secondary data included books, journals, and previous studies to support the analysis. Data collection techniques consisted of library research, in-depth interviews, and direct observation of the Mappacci ceremony. Through this approach, the study seeks to uncover the relationship between the teachings of silaturahmi in hadith and their manifestation within the local cultural practices of the Bugis community. The findings reveal that the Mappacci tradition demonstrates practices of silaturahmi consistent with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). During the ceremony, extended family and community members gather to offer prayers, blessings, and moral support, in line with hadiths that emphasize silaturahmi as a means of increasing sustenance and prolonging life. Acts of mutual cooperation, helping one another, sharing meals, and granting forgiveness reflect the values of brotherhood, compassion, and reconciliation as highlighted in the hadiths. Since the early period of Islamic acculturation in the Bugis region, this tradition has been preserved due to the strong presence of silaturahmi values within it. The Bugis ancestors who practiced Mappacci also emphasized silaturahmi as a moral and spiritual foundation, making the tradition not merely a cultural formality but also a living expression of the hadith. Thus, Mappacci stands as a local representation of Islamic teachings on silaturahmi, howing how hadith values can grow harmoniously in Bugis culture without losing Islamic essence or local identity. date: 2025-09-11 date_type: published pages: 161 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS USHULUDDIN DAN PEMIKIRAN ISLAM thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: M.Fauzan Chaeruddin, NIM.: 22105050019 (2025) NILAI-NILAI HADIS TENTANG SILATURAHMI DALAM TRADISI MAPPACCI DI MASYARAKAT BUGIS SULAWESI SELATAN.
