The population of religious adherents continues to increase, while the socio-religious aspects experience limitations. To accommodate the growing population, religious communities develop commodification practices in synchronization with the capitalist system. However, instead of leading to mechanization or structural change, this system becomes increasingly complex and stagnant. This social reality of involution can be observed not only in real life but also in novels as a social language that is close to and inseparable from reality. Therefore, this research seeks to examine and identify the processes and forms of involution of socio-religious values in a novel titled Bek by Mahfud Ikhwan, as well as to explore its relevance to religious communities in Indonesia. This study is a social research with a qualitative method. It employs historical materialism as a theoretical foundation and applies an analytical approach that departs from literary texts to observe the process of socio-religious involution in both textual and non-textual dimensions of Indonesian society. To gather arguments and identify the involution of socio-religious values in the novel Bek, this research uses documentation as the method of data collection. Unlike Geertz, who examined the stagnation of peasants under the expansion of capitalism, this research traces the stagnation of religious communities in facing unsustainable development. Based on Geertz‟s theory of involution, which is applied to analyze the socio-religious dimensions in the novel Bek, two forms of involution of socio-religious values in Indonesian religious communities are identified: mosque exclusivity and structural violence as implications of ideological orientation shifts that, while preventing explosive social conflicts, simultaneously hinder social mobility. Both examples are derived from the quotations of the novel analyzed in this study. Furthermore, the meanings of socio-religious involution are also found through various related research sources. These meanings indicate the presence of socio-religious involution of values in Mahfud Ikhwan‟s Bek. %Z Dr. Adib Sofia, SS, M.Hum.
