description: Negative beliefs and attitudes toward mental illness remain a significant barrier to mental health prevention and treatment efforts, including among psychology students who are expected to possess scientific understanding of such issues. The present study examined the effect of narrative and video vignette interventions on reducing beliefs and attitudes toward mental illness among undergraduate psychology students. This study use quantitative experimental approach with a two-experimental-group pre-post test design. 72 undergraduate psychology students from University Y, Yogyakarta, who met the criteria of having moderate to high levels of beliefs and attitudes toward mental illness. The interventions consisted of two forms vignette: (1) a narrative modified depicting a girl experiencing mental illness symptoms, undergoing treatment, and recovering and (2) a video about real-life interviews between survivors and the public. Variables were measured using an adapted Beliefs and Attitudes toward People with Mental Illness scale. Data analysis with Repeated Measures ANOVA revealed a significant overall difference and a significant time group interaction, Post hoc analysis showed the narrative vignette group had significantly higher scores than the video group, indicating that video was more effective in reducing negative beliefs and attitudes. These findings suggest that both vignettes are effective, safe, and engaging pedagogical tools for reducing beliefs and attitudes toward mental illness among psychological undergraduates, with potential for integration into psychology curricula. The narrative vignette approach, rarely applied in Indonesia, further contributes to local literature on beliefs and attitudes reduction.
