abstract: Marriage is a sacred event that not only unites two individuals but also marks the
beginning of a long journey to build a harmonious and resilient family. However,
the readiness of prospective couples to face the dynamics of married life is often
limited, making them vulnerable to conflict and even divorce. To address this issue,
the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) of Kapanewon Prambanan, Sleman Regency,
organizes a premarital counseling program as a preventive measure to equip future
spouses with essential knowledge and skills for household life.
This study aims to examine the implementation of premarital counseling at KUA
Kapanewon Prambanan and to analyze the marital resilience of couples after
participating in the program. The research uses a juridical-normative approach with
a qualitative method. Data were collected through interviews with KUA officials
and married couples—both those who attended and those who did not—as well as
documentation related to program implementation.
The findings indicate that the premarital counseling at KUA Kapanewon
Prambanan has been carried out systematically and in accordance with technical
guidelines. The materials cover spiritual, psychological, social, and economic
aspects of family life. Couples who participated in the counseling demonstrated
better mental and emotional readiness, more open communication, and greater
marital stability compared to those who did not.
Thus, premarital counseling plays a significant role in shaping families that are
sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah. This program functions not only as an
administrative requirement but also as an effective means to foster awareness,
preparedness, and resilience in facing the challenges of modern married life.
