Said Hasan Basri, S.Psi.,M.Si. abstract: Self-control is an ability possessed by individuals in regulating and directing their behavior based on cognitive and psychological processes so as to produce behavior that is in accordance with what the individual expects. Self-control as an ability to organize, guide, regulate and direct forms of behavior that can lead individuals towards positive consequences. Self-control is related to how individuals control their emotions and impulses within themselves. This study aims to determine the stages and methods of group guidance in developing self-control of class VIII students of SMPN 1 Widasari Indaramayu. The type of research used is field research which uses a qualitative approach where research produces descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people and observed behavior. The selection of research subjects was carried out using purposive sampling techniques, namely sampling techniques based on certain criteria that have been determined by the researcher. Then in the data collection technique using interview, observation and documentation methods. Data analysis carried out was data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity testing used triangulation techniques. The results of this study were that group guidance using the guidance lesson and group discussion method can develop self-control of class VIII students at SMPN 1 Widasdari Indramayu. The use of this method in group guidance at SMPN 1 Widasari Indramayu is considered effective in developing self-control of class VIII students through guidance lessons that provide information with the function of understanding self-control. Then with group discussions, students become brave in expressing their opinions, expressing their thoughts and feelings, respecting their friends' opinions, being able to exchange information, and working together to help each other with life problems.
