This phenomenon is particularly interesting to explore because Tasikmalaya is widely known as a religious city ("Kota Santri"), yet there has been a significant rise in online prostitution practices, many of which are conducted through the Michat application. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The subjects of this study consist of two sex workers and two clients who actively use Michat for digital prostitution purposes. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles & Huberman's interactive data analysis model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the shift in Michat's function is influenced by several factors: unlimited internet access, user negligence, low security risks, and the fact that the application does not require complex technology to operate. These factors are directly related to the motivations of both sex workers and clients, including economic pressure, gender issues, exploitation, psychological and sosial stress, as well as the high demand and supply for sexual services. The simplicity and accessibility of the technology make digital prostitution feel safer, cheaper, faster, and more discreet, although it continues to have negative impacts sosially, morally, and psychologically. These findings are further validated through triangulation with the Head of an Islamic Organization in Tasikmalaya, who emphasized that unchecked technological ease can become a tool for sistematic moral deviation. This study underscores the need for serious attention to the shifting function of digital applications like Michat, from technological, regulatory, and socio-religious perspectives.
