This research aims to portray the depiction of women's emancipation discourse in the film Hati Suhita through the Sara-Mills Critical Discourse Analysis approach. The discourse of women's emancipation is analyzed based on Ernesto Laclau's theory of emancipation, which categorizes six main aspects: being an independent woman, getting education right, getting ownership rights, against inequality at work, against male domination, and against social traditions domination. This film is positioned as a discourse medium that shapes the social construction of meaning regarding women, where scenes, segments, dialogues, and monologues are analyzed through two main categories of Sara-Mills: the subject-object position and the reader position. Then, the research findings will be verified using Nancy Hartsock's standpoint theory, which includes three concepts: standpoint, situated knowledge, and sexual division of labor. This movie shows how the discourse of women's emancipation is rooted in islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) in Indonesia. The cultural differences between men and women in the pesantren show the existing inequalities in that environment. Research findings indicate that the film Hati Suhita implicitly depicts the struggles of female characters in negotiating their roles, rights, and existence within patriarchal and religious values. Through the main character, Alina Suhita, the discourse of emancipation emerges not only as a personal struggle but also as a resistance against structural injustice. This research provides a theoretical contribution to strengthen critical discourse analysis in communication studies, while also encouraging critical reflection for the creative industry in framing women's narratives in a more just and progressive manner.
