"This study aimed to analyze the reception of Generation Z santri at Pondok Pesantren Kotagede Hidayatul Mubtadi-ien towards @eripras3_ vulgar humor content on TikTok. As members of the pesantren community who upheld religious values, the santri’s reception of vulgar humor was an interesting phenomenon to study. The research employed a qualitative method with Stuart Hall’s reception analysis approach, involving eight active santri informants who were TikTok users. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the eight informants. The results showed that most informants were in the negotiated reading position, accepting some of the humor as entertainment but rejecting the vulgar aspects that were contrary to religious values. Others demonstrated dominant readings with full acceptance, while some occupied oppositional readings with total rejection. This research revealed a value dilemma between popular entertainment and pesantren norms.
