"This research is motivated by the widespread circulation of dangerous cosmetics\r\nproducts, particularly those containing hydroquinone, in Indonesia. This case has\r\ngarnered attention due to the numerous side effects experienced by affected\r\nconsumers, ranging from irritation to ochronosis. This case raises questions about\r\nhow legal protection for consumers harmed by the use of dangerous cosmetics is\r\nimplemented in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 8 of 1999\r\nconcerning Consumer Protection.\r\nThe research method used was empirical juridical, with a case study\r\napproach and a descriptive analytical approach. Data were obtained through\r\ndirect interviews with several consumers, the Consumer Dispute Resolution Agency\r\nand the Yogyakarta Food and Drug Monitoring Agency. As well as through\r\nliterature review by reading, identifying, analyzing, and evaluating laws and legal\r\ndocuments.\r\nThe results of the study indicate that consumers have suffered losses due to\r\nhydroquinone contained in cosmetics. These losses include both material and\r\nimmaterial losses. Based on several cases, legal settlement efforts have been\r\nundertaken to address the losses caused by the use of cosmetics containing\r\nhydroquinone. The research also shows that there are both preventative and\r\nrepressive forms of consumer legal protection. Preventive protection includes\r\nwarning consumers about harmful ingredients in cosmetics, providing outreach\r\nand education to consumers. Repressive protection also includes imposing\r\ncompensation on consumers by businesses, confiscating products, destroying them,\r\nand blocking promotions and sales to prevent other consumers from being harmed."^^ .
