Hum. abstract: This research is motivated by the widespread circulation of dangerous cosmetics products, particularly those containing hydroquinone, in Indonesia. This case has garnered attention due to the numerous side effects experienced by affected consumers, ranging from irritation to ochronosis. This case raises questions about how legal protection for consumers harmed by the use of dangerous cosmetics is implemented in accordance with the provisions of Law Number 8 of 1999 concerning Consumer Protection. The research method used was empirical juridical, with a case study approach and a descriptive analytical approach. Data were obtained through direct interviews with several consumers, the Consumer Dispute Resolution Agency and the Yogyakarta Food and Drug Monitoring Agency. As well as through literature review by reading, identifying, analyzing, and evaluating laws and legal documents. The results of the study indicate that consumers have suffered losses due to hydroquinone contained in cosmetics. These losses include both material and immaterial losses. Based on several cases, legal settlement efforts have been undertaken to address the losses caused by the use of cosmetics containing hydroquinone. The research also shows that there are both preventative and repressive forms of consumer legal protection. Preventive protection includes warning consumers about harmful ingredients in cosmetics, providing outreach and education to consumers. Repressive protection also includes imposing compensation on consumers by businesses, confiscating products, destroying them, and blocking promotions and sales to prevent other consumers from being harmed. date: 2025-08-14 date_type: published pages: 144 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS SYARI’AH DAN HUKUM thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Nur Fadilla Darma Putri, NIM.: 21103040054 (2025) PERLINDUNGAN KONSUMEN TERHADAP PENGGUNAAN PRODUK KOSMETIK YANG MENGANDUNG HIDROKUINON DI YOGYAKARTA.
