This research explores how the symbolic, iconic, and indexical signs within batik compositions generate meaning and convey messages about pressing social and environmental concerns. By analyzing the denotative, connotative, and myth meanings embedded in motifs, colors, and patterns, the study reveals how contemporary batik serves as a visual rhetoric for advocacy. The findings indicate that batik painting transcends its traditional aesthetic function, evolving into a communicative tool that bridges cultural heritage with modern activism. This research underscores the potential of contemporary batik as a powerful semiotic medium for raising awareness and fostering discourse on social and environmental issues.
