The notion that marriage is frightening has become a dominant narrative, especially on platforms like Tiktok Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, influencing a negative perception of marriage among youth. Students of the Islamic Family Law Department at UIN Sunan Kalijaga part of Generation Z and deeply engaged with both social media and Islamic scholarship—are key informants in observing this trend. This study focuses on how this trend affects students' views on marriage and how Islamic family psychology offers a constructive framework in addressing these fears. This research is descriptive analytical in nature. Data collection techniques include interviews, documentation, and questionnaires targeting students of the Islamic Family Law Program from the 2021 to 2023 cohorts. The analysis is based on the Islamic family psychology theory by Umi Sumbulah, emphasizing mental readiness, emotional maturity, and spiritual awareness as essential foundations for entering marriage. From this perspective, fear of marriage is not seen as a rejection of marriage itself, but rather as a form of caution that can be addressed through education and proper preparation. The results show that the majority of students do not fully agree with the "Marriage is Scary" narrative, although they do acknowledge certain anxieties regarding marriage. Factors such as family trauma, lack of psychological readiness, social pressure, and media influence are dominant causes of these fears. However, equipped with Islamic values and academic understanding, most students realize that marriage is an act of worship that must be carefully prepared. Thus, this trend does not diminish interest in marriage, but rather calls for a more reflective and educational response. date: 2025-07-04 date_type: published pages: 130 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS SYARI’AH DAN HUKUM thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Aizza ‘U Nabila, NIM.: 21103050002 (2025) TREN MARRIAGE IS SCARY DI KALANGAN GEN Z DALAM PERSPEKTIF PSIKOLOGI KELUARGA ISLAM (STUDI KASUS MAHASISWA HUKUM KELUARGA ISLAM UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA ANGKATAN 2021-2023).
