abstract: Underage marriage in Gambiran Subdistrict, Banyuwangi Regency, often occurs as a response to crisis situations, such as pregnancy outside of marriage, social pressure, or impulsive desires. These conditions cause individuals to enter into marriage without psychological readiness and without sufficient understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and dynamics of a husband-wife relationship. This study aims to analyse how underage individuals who undergo counselling at the Love Corner rebuild the meaning of marriage and their self-concept after experiencing a crisis in their household. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study design. The nature of the research is descriptive-analytical with a sociological approach, namely tracing the experiences of underage married individuals in interpreting marriage through counselling interactions. Primary data was obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation, while secondary data was collected through literature studies. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, while the theory used was Herbert Blumer's symbolic interactionism to examine the process of reconstructing meaning and self-concept through the dynamics of mind, self, and society.
The results of the study indicate that the counselling process successfully reconstructed the meaning and self-concept of individuals who married underage through three main aspects. First, in terms of mind, counselling helps individuals shift from spontaneous and emotional actions to more thoughtful decisions through a process of self-reflection. Second, in terms of self, self-concepts that were previously suppressed by negative social stigma become stronger and more positive, with counsellors playing a role as figures who provide psychological and practical support. Third, in terms of society, individuals no longer see marriage as a way out of an emergency situation, but begin to understand it as a space for cooperation, long-term commitment, and a learning process that requires emotional maturity. Overall, this study shows that Pojok Cinta is capable of becoming a space for interaction that can transform the condition of vulnerable underage individuals' families into more stable families.
