"The profession of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) teachers\r\nremains dominated by women, while men are marginalized due to\r\ngender stereotypes that associate caregiving roles exclusively with\r\nwomen. This condition reflects the strong influence of hegemonic\r\nmasculinity, which positions men as authoritative figures and\r\ndistances them from child-rearing practices. This research offers a new\r\nmodel of identity known as alternative masculinity a form of\r\nmasculinity that is more empathetic, relational, and open to child\r\nnurturing.\r\n\r\nBased on this background, this study formulates three main\r\nresearch problems: (1) the stigma and factors influencing the interest\r\nin the PAUD teaching profession amid social and educational\r\ndynamics; (2) how male teachers can redefine and\r\nnegotiate alternative masculinity in early childhood education; and (3)\r\nthe learning strategies of male PAUD teachers that align with the\r\nperspective of alternative masculinity.\r\nThe research employs a qualitative approach in the form of\r\nempirical field research. Data were collected from both primary\r\nsources—interviews, observations, and Focus Group Discussions\r\n(FGDs) and secondary sources, such as books and journal articles. The\r\nstudy involved nine male PAUD teachers through in-depth interviews\r\nand observed Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activities attended by\r\n162 male teachers from various regions of Indonesia to obtain a\r\nbroader and more representative picture of the dynamics of roles,\r\nlearning strategies, and the negotiation of masculinity that they\r\nperform.\r\nThe results of the research show the following findings. First,\r\nmale PAUD teachers experience stigma arising from: (1) social\r\ninfluences such as parents’ concerns; (2) insufficient teacher salaries;\r\nand (3) cultural perceptions that regard men in this role as deviant or\r\nunpatriarchal. However, these male teachers are able to maintain their\r\nprofession due to several motivational factors, including: (1) love for\r\nthe world of children; (2) awareness of the importance of early\r\nchildhood education; (3) family support; and (4) social environments.\r\nSecond, they redefine traditional male roles into alternative\r\nmasculinity by demonstrating that masculinity can adapt to the diverse\r\ncontexts of child education. They negotiate gender roles by combining\r\nvalues of care, empathy, nurturing, and assertiveness in educating\r\nchildren. Third, their learning strategies are implemented\r\nthrough caring masculinity, inclusive masculinity, and hybrid\r\nmasculinity, which not only enrich pedagogical approaches but also\r\ncreate spaces for social transformation toward more equitable,\r\ninclusive, and child-responsive early childhood education."^^ .
