N2  - This study aims to describe the impact of the New Student Admissions (PPDB) zoning system on the existence of Fatahillah Islamic Junior High School in Sukabumi City, the efforts of Fatahillah Islamic Junior High School to maintain its existence, and the government's efforts to address the impact on the existence of private schools in Sukabumi City.
This research is a qualitative study using a case study method. Data collection used observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. Research subjects were selected using a purposive sampling technique, namely those with relevant understanding of the research theme. Data analysis was conducted in three stages: data codification, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation.
The research results show that: (1) the zoning system has a significant impact on Fatahillah Islamic Junior High School, particularly in reducing the number of new students. This condition has implications for the school's existence. (2) To maintain its existence, the school strives to improve educational services, the quality of graduates, and implements a flagship program, namely integrating the national curriculum with Islamic boarding schools. (3) The government's role in addressing the impacts on private schools in Sukabumi City is very minimal, with no apparent government support for the existence of private schools. Although the zoning system aims to equalize education, it indirectly threatens the existence of private schools because it only targets underprivileged schools. Therefore, a balanced policy is needed that does not burden either party, so that no one is disadvantaged. In this way, equal access to education can be achieved and the existence of private schools is maintained.
