Recently, an issue voiced through the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap trended on X. One particular X account that actively amplified the #IndonesiaGelap hashtag is @barengwarga. The widespread use of the #IndonesiaGelap hashtag on X has become a symbol of criticism toward various Indonesian government policies that are perceived as harmful and not in favor of the public. However, survey results on public trust from several polling institutions in Indonesia show that public trust especially toward the president remains high. Therefore, this study aims to examine the extent to which exposure to the #IndonesiaGelap hashtag through the cognitive dimension of political awareness influences the level of public trust in the government. The theoretical foundation used in this research is the Uses and Effects framework by Sven Windahl, which assumes that knowledge of media use provides understanding and predictions of its outcomes. The study employed a quantitative correlational method using path analysis. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 100 respondents who are followers of the X account @barengwarga.
