"The Islamic Boarding School Bin Baz Yogyakarta underwent\r\nsignificant expansion after the Reform Era as an institution grounded\r\nin Salafi ideology; however, the construction of its ideological\r\nnetwork, social relations, and scientific system remains insufficiently\r\nstudied. Addressing this gap is crucial for understanding how the\r\nideology of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) is constructed and\r\ntransformed within the pesantren education system, as well as how it\r\ninfluences Islamic education in Indonesia. This study aims to examine\r\nthe construction and transformation of the PAI ideological network at\r\nthe Islamic Center Bin Baz Islamic Boarding School; analyze the\r\nsocio-historical factors shaping it, the networks formed, and the modes\r\nof ideological transformation that support its growth and expansion;\r\nand explain the institution’s strategic expansion and its influence on\r\nIslamic religious education nationally.\r\nThis research adopts an interpretive descriptive qualitative\r\napproach. Data were collected through interviews, documentation, and\r\nobservations, with key informants selected through purposive\r\nsampling. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana\r\nmodel, encompassing data condensation, data display, conclusion\r\ndrawing, and verification. Data validity was tested through source and\r\nmethod triangulation.\r\nThis study shows that: (1) The Islamic Center Bin Baz Islamic\r\nBoarding School was founded by Abu Nida’ Chomsaha Sofwan and\r\nhas experienced rapid development due to its strong historical\r\nfoundation, commitment to Salafi ideology, and three strategic roles\r\naligned with national needs: (a) improving national education through\r\na modern pesantren system, (b) cultivating moral and character\r\ndevelopment through intensive guidance, and (c) contributing to the\r\nprevention of radicalism and terrorism through targeted religious\r\neducation. The synergy of these three roles enables the pesantren to\r\nadapt, expand, and gain broad social legitimacy. (2) The construction\r\nof the pesantren’s social, academic, and ideological networks is shaped\r\nby the central role of its founder, Abu Nida’ Chomsaha Sofwan, whose\r\ncross-organizational scholarly sanad spans SD Ma’arif Nahdlatul Ulama, KH Abdurrahman Syamsuri (Muhammadiyah), M. Natsir\r\n(DDII), and Abdul Aziz bin Baz (Saudi Salafism). This network has\r\nproduced an educational system characterized by structured Salafi\r\nprinciples: ideology as the foundation, the seven khittah as a value\r\nframework, a network of central and branch institutions as\r\norganizational pillars, and its vision–mission, educational goals, and\r\ncurriculum as the culmination of its ideological direction. (3)\r\nIdeological transformation into Islamic religious education is\r\noperationalized through the application of the seven khittah of the At-\r\nTurots Al-Islam Council Foundation: strengthening faith, mastery of\r\nthe Arabic language, noble character (akhlaq karimah), tahfiz al-\r\nQur’an, academic excellence, national insight (wathaniyah), and\r\nwaṣaṭiyah (moderation). The integration of these values generates a\r\nkey finding of this study: the “Salafi Waṣaṭi” typology—a model of\r\nthe Salafi movement that integrates doctrinal purification with\r\nnationalism, tolerance, and moderation.
