"Early childhood education is ideally set to be the foundation for the\r\ndevelopment of children’s sense of openness, fairness and diversity\r\nrespect. In a multicultural society like the town of Pekalongan, the\r\ninstitution of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) is essential for seedling\r\nthe values of religious moderation to children from the very young age.\r\nThis research aims to uncover how religious moderation mainstreaming\r\nis practiced in four different PAUDs, to examine the urgency of religiousmoderation\r\nlearning and how to instil the values during this golden age,\r\nand to identify the form of collaboration among teachers, parents and the\r\nschool in an inclusive moderate ecosystem of an education.\r\nEmploying a qualitative method with a phenomenology approach,\r\nthe research hires several informants comprising eight teachers, four\r\nheadmasters, four heads of Parent Communities, four education staffs,\r\nand eight parents of four Pre-Elementary-School students (TK Pembina\r\nPekalongan Barat, RA Mashitoh 06 Buaran, KB Labschool UIN KH\r\nAbdurrahman Wahid, and TK Aisyiyah Qurrota A’yun). Collected\r\nthrough interviews, observations, and documentations, the data were\r\nanalyzed using Creswell model under certain stages (i.e. description,\r\nmeaningful-unit grouping, thematic reflection, and comprehension\r\nconstruction).\r\nThe results show three findings. First, the practice of religious\r\nmoderation in four PAUDs shows a shift from a normative-memorizing\r\napproach to a contextual and reflective on the basis of factual experience.\r\nThe process of moderation-value internalization occurs through the\r\nteachers’ modelling, imitating and social reinforcement of moderate\r\nattitudes. Each school has its own particular strength. TK Pembina\r\nPekalongan Barat shows best quality in empowering school culture and\r\nsocial structure through the national school culture like flag raising and\r\nnational holiday festivals which will tickle the children’s sense of unity\r\nand equality. RA Masyitoh 06 Buaran is good at content integration\r\ndimension in which moderation values are bound to relate the story of\r\nIslamic-school figures and friendly local Islamic traditions. Through a\r\ncreative project under the theme of pluralism, such as worship-house\r\nminiature building and traditional clothes collage, KB Labschool UIN\r\nKH Abdurrahman Wahid emphasizes knowledge construction process.\r\nTK Aisyiyah Qurrota A’yun prioritizes prejudice reduction and equity\r\npedagogy through habituation, empathy, addressing, apologizing, and\r\nsharing. Second, religious moderation learning needs to be introduced to\r\nchildren while they are in a golden age stage-an early period of development where the foundation of their understanding is developed.\r\nThe school teachers are aware that the values of justness, empathy, and\r\nrespect for differences can be instilled to the students through simple daily\r\ninteractions within teaching-learning activities. Third, the success of the\r\nreligious moderation learning depends on the three-party education (i.e.\r\nteacher, parents, and school) in an open-minded communication,\r\nparenting, parent’s involvement in school activities, and the consistency\r\nin value instilment both at school and at home. The findings ascertain that\r\nreligious moderation mainstreaming in the Early Childhood Education\r\nPAUD) of Pekalongan is a contextual process which has the root of\r\neveryday practices, and shows its relevance to the theory of social and\r\nmulticultural learning with regard to empower an inclusive, fair, and\r\nmoderate school culture."^^ .
