"The phenomenon of culture shock is a psychological and emotional challenge\r\nexperienced by individuals when faced with a new environment that is different from their\r\nnative culture. This study examines the culture shock experienced by respondents from\r\nGorontalo while studying in Yogyakarta and their readaptation process when returning to their\r\nnative culture. To analyze this process, the U-Shaped Curve theory from Sverre Lysgaard,\r\nwhich explains the phases of adaptation in a new environment, and the W-Curve theory from\r\nJohn T. Gullahorn and Jeanne E. Gullahorn, which adds the dimension of reverse culture shock\r\nupon returning to one's home region, were used. The research method used was qualitative with\r\na phenomenological approach, through in-depth interviews with six Gorontalo student\r\nrespondents who had completed their studies in Yogyakarta and returned to settle in Gorontalo\r\nfor at least six months.\r\nThe results of the study show that respondents experienced phases of culture shock,\r\nstarting with initial euphoria towards the academic environment in Yogyakarta, followed by a\r\ncrisis phase characterized by language difficulties, differences in learning systems, academic\r\ncompetition, and feelings of inferiority. This was followed by a recovery phase with the\r\npresence of social support and independent learning strategies, and finally an adaptation phase\r\nwhere they successfully adjusted to the academic culture of Yogyakarta. Upon returning to\r\nGorontalo, the respondents also faced reverse culture shock in the form of a gap in facilities,\r\ndifferences in academic rhythm, and changes in social identity. However, through a process of\r\nreadaptation, they were able to integrate their experiences in Yogyakarta into their academic\r\nand social lives in Gorontalo.\r\nThis study emphasizes that understanding the process of cultural shock and readaptation\r\nis crucial to supporting migrant students in navigating academic and social transitions.\r\nAdditionally, these findings can serve as a reference for educational institutions and student\r\norganizations in providing more effective cross-cultural adaptation support."^^ .
