abstract: This research examines the novel Nārinjatun by Jukhah Al-Ḥariṡiy which contains positive implications in several conflicts. Analyzing conflicts that occur between individuals and groups which do not always show and cause only negative functions or impacts, but there are also positive impacts or functions in the conflict. This research uses a qualitative-dialectical approach using Lewis A Coser's conflict function theory. This research aims to identify realistic and non-realistic conflicts as well as the positive function of conflict contained in the novel Nārinjatun. In this research, realistic conflicts were found which were classified into five aspects of conflict, namely: Identity conflict, family conflict, gender conflict, social and economic conflict and emotional conflict. In this research, realistic conflict is more dominant than non-realistic conflict, however non-realistic conflict is complementary although not more stable than realistic conflict. Non-realistic conflicts are also classified into several aspects, namely: symbolic conflicts, magical elements, supernatural and abstract conflicts. Conflict in the novel represents a positive function which does not fail to have positive implications, namely reflection or self-evaluation, awareness and understanding of social conflict, strengthening relationships between characters in the novel, and the function of transforming society which is depicted as a more modern person, but can still maintain the existing culture.
