On the one hand, they strongly resisted Dutch domination and rebelled. On the other hand, they had good relations with the Dutch so that both parties benefited from each other's interests, including Sultan Abdurrahman. Sultan Abdurrahman as the ruler of Sumenep established political relations with the Dutch East Indies government in the form of correspondence, which had implications for the Sumenep kingdom and the Dutch East Indies government. This study aims to describe Sultan Abdurrahman's political relationship with the Dutch East Indies government in the form of correspondence in 1816-1854. To assist this research, the researcher uses a political science approach as a science to help analyze the political relations of these rulers. This research also uses the concepts of political exchange and correspondence to describe Sultan Abdurrahman's political relationship with the Dutch East Indies government. The method used in this research is the historical research method which is divided into four stages, namely heuristics (data collection), verification (source criticism), interpretation (interpretation of data), and historiography (historical writing). This research resulted in three important points, namely: First, on the social side, the total population of Sumenep in the early 19th century was the most compared to other Madura regions and social stratification in the Sumenep kingdom was still so pronounced. The sea trade was very busy, while other economic sectors, especially agriculture, were less profitable. Sultan Abdurrahman had full autonomy in his administration. Second, the strong political relationship between Sultan Abdurrahman and the Dutch East Indies government can be seen in the form of correspondence related to changes of position and promotions and related to wars and expeditions. War and expedition correspondence was about Bone ekspedition in Sulawesi, Java war, war in Sumatera, and Bali ekspedition. Third, political relations in the form of contractual cooperation between the two parties have implications for several things, including the strengthening of Sultan Abdurrahman's position as ruler of Sumenep, strengthening the Dutch expedition in the archipelago, increasing the income of the Sumenep people, and helping to maintain the security of the Sumenep region. date: 2024-12-19 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: id identifier: https://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/75143/1/22201022011_BAB-I_IV-atau-V_DAFTAR-PUSTAKA.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/75143/2/22201022011_BAB-II_sampai_SEBELUM-BAB-TERAKHIR.pdf identifier: Jamilatul Firdausi, NIM.: 22201022011 (2024) HUBUNGAN POLITIK SULTAN ABDURRAHMAN PAKUNATANINGRAT DENGAN PEMERINTAH HINDIA BELANDA DALAM BENTUK KORESPONDENSI, 1816-1854 M.
