Teachers play a cruacial role in instilling a love of reading and critical thinking in students. This study aims to determine the role of asatidz in instilling a love of reading and critical thinking among students at the Darul Qiyam Gontor Modern Islamc Boarding School, campus V, Magelang. The objectives of this study are first, to determine the role of asatidz in instilling the character of reading and critical thinking among students of Gontor campus 5 Magelang. Second, to determine the methods used by asatidz in instilling the character of reading and critical thinking among students of Gontor campus 5 Magelang. Third, to determine the implications of the role of asatidz on the character of reading and critical thinking among students of Gontor campus 5 Magelang. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques used include interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis technique used the Mils and Huberman model, which includes data condensation, and drawing conclusions and verification. The results of the study show: First, the role of asatidz in instilling the character of liking to read as educators, motivators, mediators, facilitators, mentors and evaluators. The role of the asatidz in instilling critical thinking skills as a teachers, mentor and evaluator .Second, the asatidz method in instilling the character of liking to read uses the exemplary method and habituation method. Methodes for instilling critical thinking skills using discussion methods and problem-based learning methods.
