The purpose of this study is to analyze in depth the dynamics of education, identify and explore internal and external factors, and analyze the implications of the dynamics of Islamic Religious Education on the sustainability of the strategic role of the Gedhe Kauman Mosque as an Islamic educational institution. This type of research is qualitative research with a historical sociological approach. The data collection method uses observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The historical approach is used to map the periodization of educational dynamics, while the sociological approach is used to analyze the reciprocal interaction between mosque institutions and societal changes, as well as dissect the adaptation mechanisms of Islamic education in responding to the demands of modernity and digital culture without losing its cultural identity. This research uses Robert W. Hefner's modernization theory. In this perspective, the modernization of Islamic education is not an attempt at secularization or rejection of tradition, but rather a process of institutional adaptation to democratize science and synthesize religious values with the demands of the times, markets, and modern civil society. The results of the study show that the Dynamics of Islamic Religious Education at the Gedhe Kauman Mosque (2005-2025) represents a progressive evolutionary transformation through the phases of conservation, network development, and digital modernization, which proves the high adaptability of institutions in responding to the challenges of the times without uprooting their historical roots. This change is driven by a synergistic dialectic between internal and external factors. Internal factors include the vision of professional leadership, ideological strengthening, financial independence, and takmir's intellectual capacity. Meanwhile, external factors are in the form of disruption of the COVID- 19 pandemic and technological determinism that demands the digitalization of education.
