"The low level of emotional intelligence among early childhood\r\nlearners in Indonesia, with the prevalence of social-emotional\r\ndifficulties reaching 35.2% according to the 2024 Early Childhood\r\nProfile, highlights the need for holistic and child-centered educational\r\napproaches. The Montessori method, which emphasizes\r\nindependence, structured learning environments, and experiential\r\nlearning, is considered relevant for fostering children’s emotional\r\ndevelopment. This study aims to examine the implementation of the\r\nMontessori method at Bambini Montessori School and KBTK Alifa\r\nMuslim Montessori and to analyze its impact on the emotional\r\nintelligence of children aged 3–6 years based on Goleman’s five\r\ndimensions: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and\r\nsocial skills.\r\nThis research employed a qualitative case study design\r\nconducted in two early childhood education institutions in\r\nYogyakarta. Participants were selected purposively and included\r\nchildren, teachers, and parents. Data were collected through\r\nobservation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed\r\nusing the Miles and Huberman interactive model consisting of data\r\nreduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source\r\nand method triangulation.\r\nThe findings indicate that the Montessori method was\r\nimplemented consistently through key principles such as the prepared\r\nenvironment, freedom within limits, and the practical life and\r\nsensorial areas. These practices positively contributed to children’s\r\nemotional intelligence, as reflected in improved emotional awareness\r\nand labeling (self-awareness), emotional and behavioral regulation\r\n(self-regulation), intrinsic motivation (motivation), empathetic\r\nbehaviors toward peers (empathy), and adaptive social interactions\r\n(social skills). Bambini Montessori School demonstrated more\r\ncomprehensive learning apparatus, while KBTK Alifa Muslim\r\nMontessori applied contextual adaptations integrating Islamic\r\nvalues; both schools exhibited a holistic approach to emotional\r\ndevelopment.This study concludes that the Montessori method is\r\neffective in enhancing early childhood emotional intelligence and\r\noffers both theoretical and practical contributions to early childhood\r\neducation in Indonesia.
