abstract: This study aims to analyze the representation and social construction of religious deviation in the film series Bidaah (2025). The film portrays a religious community led by a charismatic figure who manipulates Islamic teachings to maintain power and fulfill personal interests. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach using documentation analysis of scenes, dialogues, visual symbols, and narratives that represent deviant religious practices. The main analytical framework is Peter L. Berger’s theory of Social Construction, particularly the dialectical processes of externalization, objectivation, and internalization, supported by Stuart Hall’s theory of representation to examine denotative and connotative meanings in the film. The findings reveal that religious deviation in Bidaah is represented through the manipulation of religious doctrines, absolute obedience to religious leaders, symbolic and physical violence, and the exploitation of women’s bodies and spirituality in the name of religion. The process of social construction occurs through the creation of deviant teachings by the sect leader (externalization), the acceptance and institutionalization of these teachings within the religious community (objectivation), and the internalization of deviant values and practices into the consciousness of individual followers. The Serial Bidaah not only reflects social reality but also serves as a critical commentary on the abuse of religious authority. This study is expected to contribute to the development of sociology of religion and media studies, particularly in discussions on religious manipulation and deviant religious practices in religious films.
