description: The panggih traditional ceremony is one of the most important processions  in Javanese customary marriage, carrying strong symbolic, social, and cultural  values. Amid the dynamics of social change and modernization, the community of  Kalidengen Village, Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency continues to preserve  the panggih ceremony as part of the marriage process. This phenomenon is worthy  of academic examination, as it demonstrates the continuity of a customary practice  within a modern society. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the  sustainability of the panggih traditional ceremony in Kalidengen Village and to  examine it from the perspective of Islamic legal sociology.  This research is a field study employing a descriptive qualitative approach.  Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders,  religious figures, village officials, and community members directly involved in the  implementation of the panggih ceremony. Secondary data were collected from  literature reviews, documents, and previous studies. Data collection techniques  included interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted  inductively using the Islamic legal sociology approach to understand the social  functions of law in community practices.  The sustainability of the panggih traditional ceremony is also supported by  the strong collective awareness of the community, which perceives this tradition as  part of cultural identity and family honor. Although there is no formal legal  obligation to perform the panggih ceremony, the community continues to preserve  it due to social recognition, sacred values, and the belief that the tradition brings  peace and blessings to married life. The findings indicate that the sustainability of  the panggih traditional ceremony is influenced by several key factors, including  cultural values and ancestral heritage, the sacredness of marriage, the strengthening  of social relationships, cultural identity, aesthetic values, and the tradition’s ability  to adapt to social change. From the perspective of Islamic legal sociology, the  panggih ceremony can be understood as a social practice that functions as living  law, as it is accepted, practiced, and preserved by the community as a means of  maintaining social order, harmony, and social legitimacy in marriage. Thus, the  panggih ceremony serves not only as a cultural tradition but also as a social  mechanism that supports family life values within the community of Kalidengen  Village.
