"The panggih traditional ceremony is one of the most important processions\r\nin Javanese customary marriage, carrying strong symbolic, social, and cultural\r\nvalues. Amid the dynamics of social change and modernization, the community of\r\nKalidengen Village, Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency continues to preserve\r\nthe panggih ceremony as part of the marriage process. This phenomenon is worthy\r\nof academic examination, as it demonstrates the continuity of a customary practice\r\nwithin a modern society. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the\r\nsustainability of the panggih traditional ceremony in Kalidengen Village and to\r\nexamine it from the perspective of Islamic legal sociology.\r\nThis research is a field study employing a descriptive qualitative approach.\r\nPrimary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders,\r\nreligious figures, village officials, and community members directly involved in the\r\nimplementation of the panggih ceremony. Secondary data were collected from\r\nliterature reviews, documents, and previous studies. Data collection techniques\r\nincluded interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was conducted\r\ninductively using the Islamic legal sociology approach to understand the social\r\nfunctions of law in community practices.\r\nThe sustainability of the panggih traditional ceremony is also supported by\r\nthe strong collective awareness of the community, which perceives this tradition as\r\npart of cultural identity and family honor. Although there is no formal legal\r\nobligation to perform the panggih ceremony, the community continues to preserve\r\nit due to social recognition, sacred values, and the belief that the tradition brings\r\npeace and blessings to married life. The findings indicate that the sustainability of\r\nthe panggih traditional ceremony is influenced by several key factors, including\r\ncultural values and ancestral heritage, the sacredness of marriage, the strengthening\r\nof social relationships, cultural identity, aesthetic values, and the tradition’s ability\r\nto adapt to social change. From the perspective of Islamic legal sociology, the\r\npanggih ceremony can be understood as a social practice that functions as living\r\nlaw, as it is accepted, practiced, and preserved by the community as a means of\r\nmaintaining social order, harmony, and social legitimacy in marriage. Thus, the\r\npanggih ceremony serves not only as a cultural tradition but also as a social\r\nmechanism that supports family life values within the community of Kalidengen\r\nVillage."^^ .
