Parenting by grandparents has its own characteristics that have the potential to have both positive and negative impacts on child development, particularly in fostering independence in early childhood. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. The subjects consisted of several children aged 5-6 years old who were cared for by their grandparents as primary caregivers. Data collection techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis utilized an interactive model that included condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the parenting style employed is involved grandparenting, in which grandparents are actively and intensively involved in the child's daily life. In practice, grandparenting employs a predominantly democratic parenting style, accompanied by limited and situational permissiveness and authoritarianism. Parenting strategies used to foster child independence include role modeling, habituation, attention, advice, the implementation of verbal rules, and the assignment of light responsibilities. Supporting factors for the success of grandparenting in fostering child independence include a positive family culture, the loving and consistent character of the grandparent, and the high level of interaction resulting from the transfer of care. Inhibiting factors include differences in parenting styles between parents and grandparent, physical condition, and emotional closeness. This study concludes that grandparenting, implemented through appropriate and consistent strategies, can positively contribute to fostering independence in children aged 5-6 years, in accordance with their developmental stage. date: 2026-02-18 date_type: published pages: 296 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS ILMU TARBIYAH DAN KEGURUAN thesis_type: masters thesis_name: other citation: Linda Atika Dewi, NIM.: 24204031006 (2026) STRATEGI GRANDPARENTING DALAM MEMBENTUK KEMANDIRIAN ANAK USIA 5-6 TAHUN (STUDI KASUS DI LINGKUNGAN TEMBELOK KOTA MATARAM NTB).
