However, in social reality, differences in\r\nbeliefs, religious practices, and social interests constitute unavoidable\r\nsources of potential tension. This dissertation aims to address two\r\nmain issues: (1) how the community of Pendowoharjo Village\r\nunderstands religious coexistence in everyday social life, and (2) why\r\nreligious interpretation, education, and socio–economic–political\r\nfactors play a significant role in shaping religious coexistence within\r\nthis plural society. This study conceptualizes coexistence not as a\r\nstatic condition, but as a dynamic process involving interaction,\r\nnegotiation, and socio-institutional relations within the public sphere.\r\nThis research employs a qualitative approach using a case study and\r\nfield research methodology. Data were collected through in-depth\r\ninterviews with religious leaders, village officials, and interfaith\r\ncommunity members, participant observation, and documentary\r\nanalysis. Data analysis was conducted using a descriptive–\r\ninterpretative method, drawing upon theoretical frameworks of\r\npluralism, coexistence, and tolerance to examine the dynamics of\r\nreligious relations at the local level. The findings reveal that religious\r\ncoexistence in Pendowoharjo Village is understood through a strong\r\ncombination of local cultural values that emphasize communal\r\nsolidarity, the active role of the village government in creating\r\ndemocratic spaces, and contextual, non-subordinative practices of\r\nreligious interpretation. Religious interpretation is not positioned in a\r\nnormative–dogmatic manner, but rather is presented as a social\r\npractice that adapts to the practical needs of shared living. Formal and\r\nnon-formal education function as key media for internalizing values\r\nof tolerance, while socio–economic–political factors serve to create\r\nrelatively equal access and participation within social and religious\r\nspheres. This dissertation demonstrates that religious coexistence in\r\nPendowoharjo is formed through the management of lived traditions\r\nthat respect difference, rather than through the elimination of difference. The contribution of this study lies in reinforcing the\r\nperspective that religious coexistence at the village level can develop\r\nsubstantively when supported by inclusive religious interpretations,\r\neducation oriented toward communal harmony, and public policies\r\nthat open participatory spaces across religious communities."^^ .
