bibo:abstract "The cross-border marriage between an Indonesian student and an Egyptian\r\ncitizen is a social phenomenon that presents a meeting of two different cultural\r\nbackgrounds, values, and social structures. These differences not only influence\r\nthe pre-marital process but also shape the dynamics of married life after marriage.\r\nIn practice, couples face various forms of adjustment, including marriage customs,\r\nrelationships with extended families, communication patterns, and the division of\r\nroles between husband and wife. This situation makes cross-border marriage a\r\nspace for ongoing cultural negotiation.\r\nThis study used a qualitative approach with field research methods. Data were\r\nobtained through interviews with couples in mixed marriages between Indonesian\r\nstudents and Egyptian citizens, as well as documentation. Data analysis was\r\nconducted using Pierre Bourdieu's habitus theory framework, specifically the\r\nconcepts of habitus, capital, field, and social practice, to understand the\r\nrelationship between social structures and individual actions in shaping patterns\r\nof married life.\r\nThe results show that cultural negotiation takes place from the pre-marital stage\r\nthrough daily domestic life. These dynamics are evident in the process of\r\nacceptance by the Egyptian family, the implementation of marriage customs,\r\npatterns of interaction and communication, and the division of domestic and\r\npublic roles. Couples do not fully reproduce their respective cultures of origin,\r\nbut instead build agreements through compromise and adaptation. The\r\ndistribution of economic, educational, social, and symbolic capital influences a\r\ncouple's bargaining position within the household and determines the extent to\r\nwhich role negotiations can proceed in a balanced manner."^^xsd:string;
