description: The Qur’an employs various economic terms to convey moral and spiritual messages, one of which is tijārah, literally meaning trade or commerce. However, in the Qur’anic context, tijārah does not merely refer to material economic activities but also encompasses theological, ethical, and social dimensions. This study aims to analyze the meaning of tijārah in the Qur’an based on Wahbah az-Zuhaili’s interpretation in Tafsir al-Munīr, as well as to contextualize it within the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0.  This research is a library-based study employing a qualitative descriptive approach. The primary source of this research is Tafsir al-Munīr by Wahbah az-Zuhaili, while secondary sources include other Qur’anic commentaries, books, and relevant literature on Islamic economics and digital society. Data analysis is conducted through a thematic analysis of Qur’anic verses containing the term tijārah, focusing on linguistic context, exegetical interpretations, and their conceptual implications.  The findings reveal that in Tafsir al-Munīr, tijārah is understood not only as worldly commercial transactions but also as a metaphor for the transactional relationship between human beings and God, emphasizing principles of faith, honesty, justice, and orientation toward the hereafter. The Qur’anic concept of tijārah positions economic activity as a form of worship and moral responsibility. In the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Society 5.0, this concept remains relevant as an ethical foundation for digital economic practices such as e-commerce, fintech, and technology-based business, ensuring that technological advancement remains aligned with humanistic values, social justice, and spiritual consciousness.  Therefore, this study affirms that the Qur’anic concept of tijārah is both transformative and contextual, serving as a normative guideline in addressing the challenges of modern digital economic life.
