The popularity of modern sholawat, supported by social media exposure, advanced performance technology, and more varied musical arrangements, has shifted the religious preferences of parts of the community, particularly younger generations. This condition places Sholawat Jawa Ngelik, as a local religious tradition, in a position that faces cultural pressure. The study aims to analyze the forms of dominance exercised by modern sholawat and to identify the strategies employed by the Sholawat Jawa Ngelik community to maintain its existence. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with religious leaders, art practitioners, and members of the Mlangi community, as well as documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The findings indicate that the dominance of modern sholawat operates through the expansion of public religious spaces, the utilization of digital technology, and performance formats that are more adaptable to contemporary tastes. Nevertheless, Sholawat Jawa Ngelik continues to survive through resilience strategies that include selective adaptation to change, strengthening community solidarity, regenerating performers, maintaining local ritual spaces, and preserving core spiritual values and traditional conventions. In this context, resilience is not merely understood as survival, but as a process of cultural negotiation that enables the tradition to remain relevant without losing its identity. This study concludes that the sustainability of local religious traditions is determined not solely by popularity, but by the strength of community commitment and the depth of meaning embedded within the tradition.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">306.6 Sosiologi - Agama</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-02-25</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS USHULUDDIN DAN PEMIKIRAN ISLAM</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_75996"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_75996_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
