Shihab al-Din Yahya Suhrawardi's Qissat al-Ghurbah al-Gharbiyyah is the focus of this study as a representation of the distinctive use of allegorical language in the Islamic tradition of illumination philosophy. This research poses two research questions: (1) What are the forms and characteristics of Suhrawardi's language play in Qissat al-Ghurbah al-Gharbiyyah? (2) How can Wittgenstein's concept of language play explain how language functions in the text as a philosophical practice? The aim of this research is to describe the structure of the language play in the text and analyze it through the framework of Ludwig Wittgenstein's philosophy of language. This research uses a qualitativelibrary research approach. The primary sources are the text Qissat al-Ghurbah al- Gharbiyyah and Wittgenstein's works, particularly Philosophical Investigations. The analysis was conducted in three stages: textual analysis, conceptual analysis based on Wittgenstein's language game theory, and contextual analysis within the horizon of Islamic philosophy. The results show that meaning in Suhrawardi's text is formed through the mechanisms of language use in narrative contexts. Key concepts such as al-gharb, almasyriq, and al-nūr operate within three linguistic game fields that represent stages of the existential journey: alienation, orientation toward the source of light, and illuminative transformation.
