This study aimed to determine the effect of the sol-gel method on the band gap energy, crystal size and phase, and structure of TiO2/Nanocellulose. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/Nanocellulose was analyzed based on the effect of reaction conditionsand catalyst mass on the photodegradation of Remazol Brilliant Blue R was analyzed based on reaction kinetics to determine the reaction order and reaction rate.
TiO2/Nanocellulose was synthesized using nanocellulose derived from snake fruit fronds and titanium butoxide (Ti(OBut)4) precursor using the sol-gel method. The synthesis was carried out at room temperature with stirring for 24 hours, then allowed to stand for 5 days. The synthesis results were characterized using FTIR, XRD, and UV-Vis DRS. Catalyst activity tests were conducted under the effect of reaction conditions, with and without UV exposure, and with catalyst masses of 10, 30, and 50 mg, analyzed using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer.
The results showed that the FTIR analysis of TiO2/nanocellulose showed O-H stretching functional groups at 3402 cm-1, C-H stretching at 2932 cm-1, C-O stretching at 1057 cm-1, O-H bending groups at 1628 cm-1, and Ti-O groups at 733 cm-1. XRD analysis obtained peaks at angles consistent with JCPDS data No. 21-1272, namely the anatase phase of TiO2 with a crystal size of 3.56-11.87 nm and a crystallinity of 47.39%. UV-Vis DRS analysis obtained a band gap energy of 3.15 eV. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/Nanocellulose under reaction conditions shows that the photodegradation reaction of Remazol Brilliant Blue R follows second order pattern with R2 = 0.9607. The effect of catalyst mass shows that the reaction rate increases with increasing catalyst mass.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">660 Teknologi Kimia dan Ilmu yang Berkaitan</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2025-12-17</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS SAINS DAN TEKNOLOGI</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
