This research uses descriptive qualitative research with purposive sampling technique in determining informants. Data collection used observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity uses source triangulation, technique triangulation, and membercheck methods. The data analysis method used is based on Miles and Huberman's theory, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show evidence that the Gunungkidul Regency Library and Archives Office has carried out its role in manuscript preservation in Gunungkidul Regency. The roles that have been carried out to date include being the initiator of the issuance of Regional Regulations, socialization, data collection, education, media transfer, script transfer, language transfer, awarding, providing boxes, and providing silica gel. Other results from this study also suggest that the Gunungkidul Library and Culture Office has obstacles that hinder manuscript preservation activities in Gunungkidul Regency. This study concludes that the role of the Gunungkidul Regency Library and Archives Office in preserving manuscripts is very important because it relates to the preservation of manuscripts which are sources of information.
