This research is based on three problem formulations, including: Soekarno sociopolitical background; Soekarno political role and his ideas about Islam and Nationalism; and Soekarno thoughts on Islam and Nationalism and their implications for the formation and development of the Indonesian State during independence. This research aims to analyze Soekarno Islamic thought and nationalism which had an impact on his decisions and policies while he was President of Indonesia. This intellectual history research uses qualitative methods with a political approach. This research uses Islamic political theory, nationalism and democracy. This research uses a historical research method with four stages: heuristics based on primary and secondary sources, source verification based on internal and external criticism, interpretation carried out by analyzing historical facts from various sources with the theories and approaches used, and historiography carried out thematically and chronologically. The results of this research show that Soekarno Islamic thought and nationalism had implications for the formation and development of the Indonesian state. The relationship between Soekarno thoughts can be seen in the establishment of the state's foundations which link Islam and Nationalism in Pancasila. Apart from that, this relationship can also be seen in the formation of the identity of the Indonesian state, namely pluralism, multiculturalism and diversity. The implications can also be seen in the development of democracy in Indonesia, in the form of Soekarno policies towards Muslims in parliamentary democracy and guided democracy. The next research that can be studied is the genealogy of Soekarno liberal Islamic thought and its impact in the process of establishing the foundations of the Indonesian state.} }
