The series highlights various obstacles faced by women in their efforts to assert their existence in the public domain, reflecting the social realities of 1980s Kuwait. The focus of this research is to answer the research questions related to the barriers and efforts of women to assert themselves amidst patriarchal dominance. This study also aims to raise awareness among women about significant challenges such as gender norms and stereotypes, double burdens, and structural discrimination and injustice that must be overcome to achieve equal existence with men. In addition to identifying the barriers, this research explores the efforts made by women to overcome these obstacles. These efforts are manifested through women's roles as workers, contributors as intellectuals, and agents of social transformation. The research methodology involves data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing using the existential feminist approach of Simone de Beauvoir. The main data source came from the Netflix platform with a focus on manually obtained script transcriptions. The data is analyzed to illustrate the social dynamics affecting the position of women in the public sphere. The analysis focuses on the two main characters, Faridah and Munirah, who face various challenges in their efforts to assert themselves in the male-dominated stock market. The findings of this study indicate that despite facing numerous obstacles, women are able to assert their existence in the public sphere through various strategies and struggles. This research makes a significant contribution to feminist discourse and expands the understanding of women's struggles for equality, as well as its relevance in modern social contexts. Additionally, this study contributes to the study of Arabic literature and culture by analyzing The Exchange as a cultural text that reflects and critiques social and gender dynamics in Arab society. Through Simone de Beauvoir's existential feminist approach, this research enriches contemporary Arabic literary studies by offering a critical perspective on the representation of women in visual media, while also deepening the understanding of gender issues within specific cultural and historical contexts.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">892.7309 Analisis - Kesusastraan Arab</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2025-01-16</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ADAB DAN ILMU BUDAYA</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
