bibo:abstract "This research was conducted because the struggles of the Laskar\r\nHizbullah and Laskar Sabilillah had been marginalized in Indonesian\r\nnational historiography. In official state historical works, particularly\r\nin the National History of Indonesia and Indonesia in the Flow of\r\nHistory, the roles of these troops were not adequately revealed, while\r\nthe role of the state's regular army was predominantly presented. The\r\nofficial historiographic narrative tended to position the military\r\ninstitution as the primary actor in the armed struggle, thus obscuring\r\nthe significant contribution of the Islamic-based people's paramilitary\r\ntroops. Yet the contributions of these troops constituted an important\r\nhistorical event that needed to be revealed: from the Japanese\r\noccupation and the post-Proclamation of Independence period to the\r\nstruggle to defend independence against Allied aggression through\r\nguerrilla warfare across various regions, both in Java and outside it.\r\nThis study analyzes how different historiographic sources from\r\n1975 to 2020—official state accounts, militia narratives, and academic\r\nscholarship—construct competing historical narratives. By employing\r\nhistorical methods (heuristics, verification, interpretation,\r\nhistoriography) the analysis shows that state historiography reflects\r\npolitical New Order power and ideological objectives; militiaauthored\r\nworks represent experiential memory and grassroots\r\nperspectives; and academic historians provide a more critical,\r\nanalytical interpretation that interrogates the other narratives.\r\nGuided by Hegel’s critical philosophy of history and\r\nframeworks from modern historiography according to Jhon Tosh and\r\nMuhammad Ali. This research directly investigates how power and\r\nideology shape historical narratives by perspective Michael Foucoult.\r\nIt argues that the state narrative (thesis), militia narrative (antithesis),\r\nand academic narrative (synthesis) engage in a dialectical process that\r\ncontinually redefines the dominant historiographic structures and\r\nexposes the mechanisms behind narrative authority.\r\nThis research resulted in three findings. First, the general\r\npicture of national historiography, particularly shaped during the New\r\nOrder era, was state-centered, militaristic, and oriented toward\r\npolitical stability. This structure directly contributed to the\r\nmarginalization of the identity, contributions, and socio-religious\r\ndynamics of Laskar Hizbullah and Laskar Sabilillah in official history.\r\nSecond, this study found an imbalance in representation: official\r\nhistory ignored the religious and social dimensions of the laskar's\r\nstruggle; the laskar's internal works tended to be heroic and normative;\r\nand academic works sought to present a more contextual and critical\r\nanalysis. Third, this study offered a more open, inclusive, and\r\npluralistic conception of Indonesian historiography by embracing a\r\ndiversity of sources and perspectives as a basis for developing a future\r\nnational historiography that is more just, comprehensive, and\r\nreflective.\r\nThis study concludes that Indonesian national historiography\r\nduring tended to be centralized, militaristic, and ignored religious and\r\nsocial dimensions, so that a more inclusive and pluralistic\r\nhistoriographical approach is needed to create a more just and\r\ncomprehensive historical narrative in the future."^^xsd:string;
