In contrast to contemporary discourses that often reduce Wasa?iyyah merely to behavioral moderation or an instrument of social harmony, Al-Madani constructed it more radically as an epistemological doctrine and a cultural strategy to respond to the cultural fragmentation (cultural schizophrenia) caused by the crisis of modernity in Egypt. Therefore, this research focuses on answering two main problems: (1) how is the construction of Al-Madani's concept of Wasa?iyyah in the book; and (2) what are the historical, scientific, and ideological contextual factors that influenced this conceptualization. This is a qualitative library-based research employing a philosophical approach. The theoretical framework utilizes Shahab Ahmed?s analytical tools of The Revelation Matrix and Hermeneutical Engagement, sharpened by Hans-Georg Gadamer?s basic hermeneutic assumption of historically effected consciousness. This framework is used to trace the dialectic of meaning-making between the Text (the corpus of revelation), Con-Text (the lexicon of past tur?? and local crisis), and Pre-Text (the ontological belief in Divine rationality). The results show that, first, the construction of Al-Madani's concept of Wasa?iyyah, which revolves around QS. Al-Baqarah (2): 143, is built through three intertwined mechanisms of hermeneutical engagement: the affirmation of the Pre-Text of Divine rationality (such as the rejection of extreme asceticism), the deconstruction of elitist Con-Text (such as the democratization of the duty of da'wah to be an individual obligation/far? 'ain), and the expansion of Con-Text (absorbing modern scientific vocabulary to defend the validity of sharia, such as medical analogies in ?ud?d laws and sociological approaches to women's testimony rules). Second, this conceptualization is driven by the dialectic of historical factors in the form of the crisis of cultural dualism in Egypt, scientific factors in the form of profound mastery of the Al-Azhar tura? lexicon, and ideological factors as a Reformist Salafi scholar who believes in the absolute rationality of sharia. The synergy of these factors drove Al-Madani to engage in meaning-making to heal the divided soul of the nation and restore the subjectivity of the Muslim ummah so that they can return to their role as "witnesses over mankind" (syuhada? ?ala an-nas).
