husband accuses his wife of adultery or denies the lineage of the child she carries
but cannot bring four witnesses. In this situation, li’an becomes a legal solution so
that the husband does not receive the punishment of qadzaf (false accusation of
adultery), while the wife has the opportunity to rejject the accusation and defend
herself.
The hadiths about li’an are discussed in many hadith commentary books.
However, different scholars backgrounds. Two books that discuss the hadiths of
li’an are Aunul Ma’bud Syarah Sunan Abu Dawud by Syams al-Haq al-Adzim
Abadi and Badru at Tamam Syarah Bulughul Maram by Syeikh Husain bin
Muhammad al- Maghribi. Both books explain the hadiths about li’an, but each
book has its own way of explaining them. This research aims to describe the
discussion of li’an hadiths in Aunul Ma’bud and Badru at Tamam to compare the
understanding of the two books.
This research is a library research using a qualitative approach and a
comparative method. The main sources of this study are the books Aunul Ma’bud
and Badru at Tamam. The data were collected by reading and examming the hadith
texts and the explanations in the two books to find their similarities and differences.
Li’an is a process of mutual oaths between a husband and a wife when a
husband accuses his wife of adultery or denies the lineage of the child she carries
but cannot bring four witnesses. In this situation, li’an becomes a legal solution so
that the husband does not receive the punishment of qadzaf (false accusation of
adultery), while the wife has the opportunity to reject the accusation and defend
herself.
The result of this research show that both books explain li’an as a legal
solution to resolve accusations of adultery between a husband and a wife when four
witneses cannot be presented, based on Qur’an Surah An Nur verses 6-10. Both
books also explain that li’an is done by making four oaths to confirm the accusation,
followed by a fife oath that ask for the curse or wrath of Allah if the person is lying.
In attrition, booth books agree that the final thurt is known by Allah, that a child
whose lineage is denied through li’an is connected to the mother, and that after the
li’an process the marriage between the husband and wife ends and they must
separate.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">297.125 Hadis</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-03-16</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS USHULUDDIN DAN PEMIKIRAN ISLAM</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
