      "abstract": "This research is motivated by the importance of fostering interest in vocational\r\nskills in children with Special Needs (ABK) as an effort to increase independence\r\nand social functioning. Bina Siwi Oerphanage as a Child Social Welfare Institution\r\n(LKSA) not only plays a role in fulfilling basic needs, but also in developing\r\nvocational skills as a flagship program, especially for children with intellectual\r\ndisabilities. This study aims to describe the process of fostering interest in vocatinal\r\nskills in children with mental retardation, as well as the supporting and inhibiting\r\nfactors that influence the process. This study uses a qualitative method with a\r\ndescriptive approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through\r\nobservation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, with informants selected\r\nusing purposive techniques. The results show that the process of fostering interest\r\nin vocatinal skills in children with intellectual disabilities at the Bina Siwi\r\nOrphanage is carried out through three stages, namely the initial stage of skill\r\nintroduction, the mentoring stage, and the stage of strengthening interest in\r\nvocational skills. The initial stage is carried out through the method of watching\r\nwhile learning, the mentoring stage is carried out through the involvement of\r\nprofessional trainers and mentors or inspiration. The next stage of strengthening\r\ninteres tis carried out through providing appreciation and space for exploration.\r\nThis process involves cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects that are\r\ninterrelated and integrated. Supporting factors in this process include internal and\r\nexternalَ factors.َ Internalَ factorsَ include:َ 1)َ theَ child’sَ willingness, 2) active\r\ninvolvement and attention, and 3) feelings of happines. External factor include: 1)\r\nthe orphanage’sَ flagshipَ programs,َ 2) support and motivation from caregivers, 3) a\r\nconducive environment, and 4) availabity of tools and materials. Inhibiting factors\r\ninclude: a) financial constraints (capital), b) variation in children’sَ abilityَ levels,َ c)َ\r\nchildren’sَ emotionalَ stability,َ andَ d)َ anَ imbalance in the caragiver ratio.",
