Frustration, anxiety, and regret are common symptoms of students experiencing culture shock. This study aims to examine the phenomenon of culture shock experienced by Bima students in Yogyakarta, their cultural adaptation process, and to understand the role of personal communication and cultural adaptation factors. This study used a qualitative approach. The subjects were Bima students studying in Yogyakarta and experiencing the cultural adaptation process. The object of the study was the phenomenon of cultural adaptation of Bima students in dealing with culture shock in Yogyakarta. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using cultural adaptation theory. The results of this study indicate that during the honeymoon stage, Bima students feel enthusiastic about the new culture. During the frustration stage, various pressures and difficulties arise, such as language, customs, and physical conditions, which trigger emotional distress. During the adjustment stage, Bima students begin to understand cultural adaptation by adjusting communication patterns, understanding cultural and linguistic differences, and rebuilding more harmonious interactions. In the acceptance stage, Bima students achieve cultural adaptation maturity, characterized by emotional stability, increased self-confidence, and the ability to communicate flexibly in the new cultural environment of Yogyakarta. Thus, culture shock is not merely an obstacle but also a learning process that encourages students' personal development and interpersonal communication skills. date: 2026-05-26 date_type: published pages: 118 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Dini Putra Fadilah, NIM.: 19107030122 (2026) KOMUNIKASI ANTARPRIBADI MAHASISWA DALAM ADAPTASI BUDAYA MENGHADAPI CULTURE SHOCK (STUDI KUALITATIF MAHASISWA BIMA DI DAERAH ISTIMEWA YOGYAKARTA).
