N2  - the study aims to analyze the practice of kenduren between the older and younger generations in Tegalmulyo Village, Kemalang District, Klaten Regency. Kenduren as a local Javanise tradition, has religious, social and cultural significance that has been passed down from generation to generation. However with changing times, percective and practices have also changed, particulary differences in paticipations between generations
this study uses qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach to gain a deeper understanding of the changing meanings, implementation methods, causal strategies for preserving the kenduren tradition. The theory used in this study is George Herbert Mead?s symbolic interactionism theory, specifically its key concepts of mind, self and society. This theory examines how the meaning of kenduren is constructed trough social interactions within society
the results of this study indicate that (1) The older generation tends and religions obligation, social solidarity and respect for ancestors, while (2) The younger generation views kenduren as something more flexible and contextual, with a tendency to simplify symbols and change participation patterns. (3) This change is influenced by factors of understanding, modernization, lifestyle changes and the process of internalizing different values between generations. Despite shifts in meaning and partice, kendure in Tegalmulyo Village has not been completely distorted but is in the process of negotiating meaning between generations, resulting in a new from of harmony (4) Preservation strategies are implemented trough openness, providing learning spaces for the younger generation and adaptation processes that maintain traditional values. Thus, kenduren remains a dynamic and adaptive social practice in rural communities
