The involvement of extended family members, such as grandparents and aunts, in early childhood care is driven by work demands and the parents' socioeconomic conditions. Parenting within extended families can shape different parenting patterns and have implications for the development of independence in children aged 4-6 years. This study aims to describe parenting patterns of 4-6 year-old children in extended families and analyze their potential for child independence in RW 03, Kedung Malang, Village, Jepara. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The study subjects consisted of grandmothers, aunts, and biological parents selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested using source and technique triangulation. The results of the study indicate that parenting patterns in extended families in RW 03, Kedung Malang Village, Jepara tend to be democratic parenting patterns characterized by warm, communicative two-way communication and providing opportunities for children to try independently, which appears to support children's independence in daily activities, simple decision-making, and responsibility. Conversely, overly serving or inconsistent parenting appears to be related to children's dependence on adult assistance. The division of parenting roles is carried out jointly between biological parents and extended family members, where extended family members are more involved in daily care when parents are working. The implications of parenting patterns for children's independence indicate that democratic parenting patterns tend to shape children to be more independent, confident, able to carry out daily activities, make simple decisions, and be responsible for their duties. Conversely, overly permissive and inconsistent parenting patterns result in children being more dependent on adult assistance.
