Family quality time is one effort parents can make to build emotional closeness while instilling independence in children. This study aims to determine the optimization of family quality time in developing independence in children aged 4-6 years and the supporting and inhibiting factors in Bugisan Srikaloka, RT 28, RW 05, Patangpuluhan Village, Wirobrajan District, Yogyakarta. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of parents of children aged 4–6 years. The data collection techniques used by the researchers included observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included data condensation, data presentation, and verification or conclusion drawing. Data validity was tested using source and technique triangulation. The research results show that optimizing family quality time to develop independence in children aged 4–6 years can be said to be gradually successful. This is evident in the children's ability to carry out various daily activities independently, understand rules, and begin to demonstrate age-appropriate responsibilities. However, the development of this independence is not yet fully optimal because some children still show dependence on their parents and unstable emotional control skills, so they still need ongoing guidance and habituation. Supporting factors in the implementation of quality time include parental commitment to time management, cooperation between family members, quality interactions between parents and children, a harmonious family environment, and appropriate guidance patterns.
