in physical function with age and the emergence of Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS), characterized by
extreme fatigue, joint pain, and muscle atrophy. This study aims to explore the successful aging
strategies of elderly polio survivors in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. The research employed a
qualitative method with a case study approach. The informant criteria were elderly individuals
(minimum 60 years old) based on the classification of the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2020),
persons with acquired physical disabilities due to polio, able to communicate well, residing in
Sleman, and willing to participate voluntarily. Three elderly polio survivors (two males and one
female) were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through semistructured
interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was
conducted using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The results
showed that the successful aging strategies of elderly polio survivors encompass six aspects, namely
self-esteem protection, financial independence as a pillar of self-sovereignty, spirituality as selfacceptance,
social engagement, maintaining physical health and fitness, and maintaining cognitive
function. This study enriches Crowther's theory (2002) by discovering two additional aspects: selfesteem
protection strategy and financial independence strategy as a pillar of self-sovereignty. The
three informants were proven to have achieved successful aging, characterized by the ability to
manage their physical condition well, having stable financial independence, having strong selfesteem
protection, being socially active, having deep spirituality (plong phase), and having
sufficiently sharp memory and clear thinking.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">158.3 Psikologi Konseling, Penyuluhan, Bimbingan Konseling</mods:classification><mods:classification authority="lcc">DISABILITAS</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-04-30</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
